Adding navigation

Overview

Navigation blocks contain Back and Next buttons which allow users to navigate sequentially between pages. By default the Back button will take the user to the previous page in the page hierarchy, and the Next button will take the user to the following page. Navigation blocks are typically added at the bottom of a sequence page.

How to add navigation to a page

Adding a navigation block

Start in the Page management area of the Sequence page.

  1. Click on the (Select type to create) dropdown menu above the Blocks area, and select Navigation block.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Add a heading for the navigation block into the Heading field. This is primarily for identification of the block in Glasshouse, as the heading is hidden by default on navigation blocks.
  4. Click Save and Publish.

The basic functionality of navigation blocks is pre-defined when the block is created. The Back and Next buttons will be created by default, and will automatically take the user to the previous and following pages respectively. To customise this basic functionality click on the Options heading below.

Options

Editing the text content of the Back and Next buttons

  1. Click on the Buttons tab inside the navigation block.
  2. Click on either the Back or Next button row to edit it, and navigate to the Button tab to the right of the Main tab.
  3. Change the text in the 'Contents of the button' field to the desired text.
  4. Click Save and Publish.

Choosing a specific page for the button to navigate to

  1.  Follow steps 1 & 2 above to get into the editing area of the specific button (Back or Next) that is being edited.
  2. Click on the Edit Javascript Action button underneath the Content editing field.
  3. Click on the dropdown menu to the right of the Action heading, and scroll down to Navigate to specified page.
  4. Click Save.
  5. A Page to navigate to dropdown menu will appear underneath the Action menu once the page has been saved. Click on this further dropdown menu and select the page for the button to navigate to.
  6. Click Save and close.

Adding content above the navigation block

Text or image content can be added above the buttons within a navigation block. This is useful if further instructions or explanation is needed before the user leaves the page.

  1. Click on the Main tab inside the navigation block.
  2. In the Text Content field add the desired text or image content.
  3. Click Save and publish.

Deleting and adding buttons within the navigation block

To add a button, navigate to the Buttons tab in the navigation block and click on the Add Button Block button.

To delete either button, click the Unlink icon at the right of the button blocks preview row.

The buttons within navigation blocks follow the same functionality as single button blocks. You can read further about button blocks here.
