Choices Display Block

Overview

A Choices Display Block allows you to show learners their previously saved choices from MCQ Buttons blocks that have the "Save choices" option enabled. This creates a personalized learning plan or summary that learners can reference throughout their learning journey.

Working Together: MCQ Buttons + Choices Display Block

Creating a Personalized Learning Experience

The MCQ Buttons and Choices Display Block work together to create a powerful personalized learning workflow:

Step 1: Set up Choice Saving

  • Create MCQ Buttons blocks throughout your learning content
  • For questions where you want to save learner responses, enable Advanced - Save choices
  • Design questions that help learners identify their learning goals, preferences, or action items

Step 2: Create a Learning Plan Page

  • Add a Choices Display Block to a dedicated page (e.g., "My Learning Plan" or "My Choices")
  • Add instructional content explaining what the saved choices represent
  • Consider placing this block at the end of a learning sequence or on a summary page

Step 3: Guide Learner Journey

  • Throughout the learning experience, learners make choices on MCQ Buttons blocks
  • Their responses are automatically saved when the "Save choices" option is enabled
  • Learners can visit the Choices Display Block page to review their personalized learning plan
  • This creates a reference they can return to for future learning or action planning

Best Practices

For MCQ Buttons with Save Choices:

  • Use clear, action-oriented choice text that will make sense when displayed later
  • Focus on choices that represent learning goals, commitments, or next steps
  • Consider the choice text as part of a learning plan rather than just quiz answers

For Choices Display Blocks:

  • Provide clear context about what the saved choices represent
  • Place the block strategically where learners can easily find and reference it
  • Consider adding instructions for how learners can use their saved choices
  • Use descriptive headings that explain the purpose of the saved choices

Example Use Cases:

  • Professional Development Planning: Learners choose skills to develop, displayed as a personalized development plan
  • Action Planning: Learners select actions they commit to taking, creating an action plan they can reference
  • Resource Selection: Learners choose relevant resources, creating a personalized resource library
  • Goal Setting: Learners identify goals throughout a course, compiled into a comprehensive goal list

This integrated approach transforms traditional multiple choice questions into building blocks for personalized, actionable learning experiences that learners can reference and act upon beyond the immediate learning session.

How to create a Choices Display Block

Start in the Main content area on a Sequence Page.

Initial setup: Create a Choices Display Block

  • Select Choices Display Block from the Blocks dropdown menu
  • Click Add
  • Add a heading in the Headings field
  • Add introductory content in the Content to show before items are added field (optional)
  • Click Save
Features

Content Before Items - use the Content to show before items are added field to provide context or instructions that will appear above the saved choices. This content supports rich text formatting and can include:

  • Instructions for the learner
  • Explanatory text about their saved choices
  • Additional guidance or next steps

Automatic Choice Display - the block automatically:

  • Retrieves all saved choices for the current logged-in user
  • Groups choices by action/topic to avoid duplicates
  • Displays choices in an expandable accordion format
  • Shows the choice text and any associated resources
  • Sorts choices alphabetically for easy navigation

User Authentication - the block requires users to be logged in to display their saved choices. If no user is logged in or no choices have been saved, the block will display empty.

Display Format

Saved choices are displayed as:

  • Accordion panels with the choice action as the header
  • Expandable content showing the full choice details and resources
  • Organized grouping where duplicate actions are consolidated
  • Responsive design that works across different screen sizes
